On Friday we celebrated our end of year awards by getting together as a region to share our successes and challenges of the last year. We have had another solid year at BCUK, creating excellent foundations and structure that will allow this year to be the best yet. Specific growth areas include the Property & Surveying sector, Trades & Labour and Social Housing divisions with double digit growth in all areas. We’ve also enjoyed a year on year increase across our permanent and temporary regional fees.
Like every other growing company in the UK, we were faced with certain challenges throughout the past year. We see these challenges as a great opportunity to learn and strengthen our team further for 2016-17. We reevaluated consultants to ensure they are on the right desk, we refocused our management support around the team to allow them to excel, and we complimented this by attracting experienced recruiters who can add their wealth of expertise to the business. This year, I am proud to have Donna Hoggarth, Graham Hacking, Joanna Bowe and Jo Coppock join our team, all of whom are a credit to work with.
Throughout this year we have had some amazing highlights to be proud of. We have had many promotions, our new website officially launched in November, Housing Excellence awards in May, 98% compliance across the business, thousands of pounds raised for Claire House children’s hospice, achieving the ISO9001 accreditation in March for the first time and introducing a regular online customer survey which has achieved great feedback. These are just a few examples of what has been a great year. Next stop for BCUK in 2016 is progressing to Investors in People Platinum. Watch this space!
Our end of year awards is not only a time to look back at the year just gone, but also to look forward and plan the record breaking year ahead. The construction sector has a total of £114.36bn of projects in planning in the North West alone, projects worth up to £40bn are due to start between 2016 and 2018 and the government is aiming to build 200,000 homes by 2020. It’s an exciting time to be part of the industry and a great time to get involved with BCUK, but this growth in work will also come with its own challenges. How is the recruitment industry going to cope with the lack of suitable talent across all divisions? At BCUK, we have made a strategic decision to promote David Tattum to Resourcing Manager to strengthen and cement links with external agencies, boost population of candidates across all divisions, and place BCUK at the forefront of the industry tackling the skills gap with training and awareness for getting into the industry. Congratulations David on your new role!
We also had an extremely well deserved promotion to announce which completely shocked the individual. We were thrilled to announce that Debbie King has been promoted to Director. Debbie joined BCUK 3 years ago and excelled in her role from day one, most recently taking the lead and developing our Social Housing Division to a solid team of experienced consultants. Not only is Debbie the strongest expert in Social Housing recruitment in the region, but she’s a delight to work with and we’re looking forward to an exciting year ahead within the social housing business!
Every year at BCUK we celebrate the end of the year with an awards ceremony. Congratulations once again to all our deserving award winners!

All year we have been working towards winning this year’s incentive; a 3 night stay in Dubai. Congratulations to Elle Mackie, Paul Black, Graham Hacking, Jennifer Fisher, Joanne Fisher and Debbie King who will soon be jetting off to Dubai together! Another fantastic reason to work for BCUK!
As a final note from me, I would like to thank everyone that I work with on a daily basis. It’s been a great year, and I really enjoy coming to work every morning, facing our challenges together, celebrating the highlights and working with such a truly dedicated, loyal and close knit team. The BCUK family has an exciting year ahead and I know that we are set up to have a fantastic 2016-2017.
