Job Description

Our client - Your New Business:

One of the UK's top residential developers have branched into main contracting and are growing rapidly across the North West. Together, we are offering an exceptional opportunity to join the business at this exciting time of expansion into the region, on a high profile, well publicised project. Having built their reputation over the last 20 years' on major projects across the country, they are now working on a £30m new build and refurbishment project on a listed building in the East Cheshire / South Manchester area.

With a turnover in excess of £40m and an excellent financial backing, this main contractor is building on its nationwide success in new build developments on projects ranging in value from £15m - £40m. Moving into he Manchester area at this time is a statement of intent byu a proactive business, and joining them in the region now is an excellent opportunity for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to gain invaluable experience to add to their CV.

As the Assistant Quantity Surveyor based on this exciting project, you will support the Senior Quantity Surveyor by building strong relationships with subcontractors, operational teams and the client. Gaining valuable exposure to subcontractor procurement and schedule management, you'll experience a steep but engaging learning curve, whilst helping to ensure the correct procedures and support the senior QS in maximising project value throughout.

Your duties and responsibilities as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor:

* Build and maintain a strong working relationship with the client business and ensure reports (including board reports, CVRs and schedules) to the client and the Directors are accurate, timely and forewarn of any potential issues
* Support in the management of significant subcontractor packages (including groundworkers, cladders and roofers, for example), helping to maintain performance against programmes/schedules
* Feed appropriate subcontractor information into the Senior Quantity Surveyor and the client as appropriate, as well as support the business in the negotiation of potential and live variations to contract and values
* Support in the forecasting of predicted spends and cash flows, and prepare CVRs, cost reports and final accounts information as appropriate
* Ensure submission of payment applications and work with the Senior QS and subcontractors to ensure payments are dealt with fairly and in accordance with terms
* Work with other staff across the business and across subcontractors to help keep the project on time and to cost

Your skills and experience required:

You will be suitably qualified for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor Position (HND in construction or a similar, or superseding qualification including a degree in Quantity Surveying, for example). Experience in new build or extensive refurbishment work will be an advantage, but most importantly you will show an eye for detail, an ability to handle negotiations and exhibit a driving attitude. You'll also be a relationship-builder, able to successfully manage different personalities across site, offices, clients and subcontractors.

Salary, Remuneration & other benefits on offer:

An excellent package is on offer here, including a salary of £25,000 - £35,000 (depending on experience and your current situation). My client is willing to pay above market rate to secure the right person for the role.
