Job Description

Our client are an international investor and construction company specialising in delivering some of the biggest and most prestigous projects in Northern England presently. The company are currently looking to expand with a view to importing construction materials into the UK market from various marketing elsewhere in the world.

The Role

Material Engineer (Buyer) required to support the Direct Sourcing team in the procurement of construction materials.


* Digest and understand the specifications and requirements of construction material/equipment
* Identify manufacturers/suppliers who can provide products/alternatives, whilst meeting regulations, certifications and specifications
* Conduct domestic market investigation on equivalent materials
* Support and coordinate the project team on the preparation of submittals for materials to the architect
* Liaise and coordinate with testing and certifying institutions, to apply/obtain certification, test reports, qualifications etc. for targeted importing materials and equipment
* Liaise with suppliers and the project delivery teams in line with the programme lead time, ensuring that products are delivered on time
* Arrange inspection of materials/equipment before loading
* Responsible for quality control throughout the entire procurement and delivery process, ensuring statutory regulations are met in relation to quality control
* Deal with all technical issues from the engineering team following delivery
* Managing the delivery of logistics in line with the project programme
* Prepare submittals for client, designers and subcontractors


* Proficient speaking and writing skills in both English and Chinese Mandarin
* 5 years' plus residential/commercial experience as a quality control manager, building engineer or package manager
* An engineering/construction background
* BSc in engineering, construction management or Quantity Surveying
* Previous engineering background with importing/exporting experience is advantageous
* Fully proficient with Microsoft Office including Outlook
* Ability to develop strong personal relationships with clients/consultants and staff
* Excellent communication and presentation skills at all levels
* Able to prioritise tasks and organise daily workload
* Attention to detail and accuracy
* Capable of taking ownership of tasks and communicating outcomes with clarity
* Strong work ethic
* Current driving license desirable
