Job Description

Your New Company:

This is a growing regional fit-out and refurbishment contractor based in Manchester and operating across the North West region. Managed by an engaging and passionate MD and Operations Director, both with significant experience in the fit-out arena, the full forward order book is both exciting and challenging. Known for their excellent standards of delivery over the course of 30 years' experience, they have developed long running relationships with several high profile clients across the public and private sectors.
As the Commercial Manager, you will take regional responsibility for a team of commercial professionals, including Estimators and a handful of Quantity Surveyors (at different levels in their career). You'll be expected to take a hands on approach to team management as well as managing commercial aspects of projects yourself - you'll be the centre of a high functioning commercial hub and as such will be a key driver in the continuing expansion of the business. Based in Manchester, you'll operate across the North West region, ensuring the overall value and profitability across projects is maximised.

The role - Commercial Manager:

Your duties and responsibilities as the commercial manager will include:
* Maintain and report commercial information on live and future projects to the Managing Director and other project stakeholders
* Develop and lead a successful and efficient commercial team, capable of running projects to a market-leading standard
* Build and maintain a strong working relationship with clients and suppliers, ensuring communication at all levels inside and outside the business is efficient and conducive to working in partnership
* Supervise, mentor and encourage all subordinate staff in their personal professional development, including ensuring assistant quantity surveyors' participation in the management of subcontractors
* Procure subcontractors where appropriate, and ensure subcontractor payments are made in line with contract terms and payment applications to the clients made in line with industry legislation and contract stipulation

Your skills and experience required:

You will hold an HND in Construction (or a related subject) or above qualification, although a commercial manager who demonstrates significant experience will of course be considered. Your experience in fit-out, interiors or refurbishment will be highly desirable, although maintenance and small construction work will also be a background of interest to the client. You will be able to demonstrate an ability to manage a team of Senior, Intermediate and Assistant Quantity Surveyors, as well as other commercial staff (including estimators), and demonstrate an ability to hold your own in challenging situations - both internally and externally.
Comfortable acting as a regional commercial manager (across a number of projects) and an ability to ensure maximum profitability across the business' operations will be crucial - and you'll have the opportunity to do this through your own individual performance, and through leading the performance of your team.

Salary, Remuneration & other benefits on offer:
Our client is willing to offer a salary and package above market rate to secure the right individual; a package totalling up to £65k including a car/car allowance and significant fringe benefits including a mobile phone, lap top, contributory pension and flexible working arrangements.

An exceptional commercial manager position with an opportunity to further enhance your reputation in the North West construction market.
