Our client - Your New Business:

A small but successful SME, this specialist subcontractor in glazing, cladding and aluminium systems based in Merseyside has been established for over 10 years. It has built its significant reputation among blue-chip clients and the UK's Top Main Contractors because of its expertise in the niche market in which it operates, and because of this has seen a significant expansion in its Aluminium Division.

Having built its success through the application of a number of systems, including Logikal software, this £10m turnover business is small enough so you remain involved, but large enough that its name is instantly recognisable among many prestigious contractors. Having worked on high-profile projects such as the Shard in London, delivering excellent glazing and enveloping packages, this certainly represents a business worth exploring.

We are looking for a Commercial Manager to head up a successful department within the business. You'll use your tenacity and relationship building expertise to drive the successful and timely completion of a number of projects, and ensure the business is operating at its optimum level. Reporting directly to the MD, you will be the Head of Department here - which represents an excellent opportunity to take something already successful, and contribute to it becoming even greater.

Your duties and responsibilities as a Senior Quantity Surveyor:

* Work with multiple clients and projects at any one time, ensuring that you and your team keep the clients informed of progress and potential issues
* Report programme and project performance and other relevant contract updates to the Managing Director
* Deputise for the Managing Director and Operations Director in client meetings
* Supervise, mentor and encourage all subordinate staff in their personal professional development, including ensuring assistant quantity surveyors' participation in the management of subcontractors
* With the support of your team, you'll forecast predicted spends and project cash flows, and contribute to the preparation, negotiation and settling of final accounts with the customer (including managing variations)
* Drive projects and delivery, ensuring productivity across all operational areas within the department

Your skills and experience required:

You will have demonstrable experience working in a commercial or operational role for a subcontractor, and specific experience of working in glazing, cladding or aluminium systems will be of particular interest.

Experience of working with one of: Logikal, Metal Technology, Reynaers and/or Technal Systems will ensure a smooth entry into the business back-office operations and client interfacing.

You will have experience and knowledge of negotiating accounts, variations and payments, as well as managing a team of staff who will also carry out these duties.

You'll show tenacity and drive, and a keen eye for commercial detail and profitability. In addition, you will display leadership qualities and the experience of developing a team of commercial (and operational where appropriate) professionals around you - in the office and on site.

Previous work as a contracts manager, senior QS, estimator, project manager or senior site manager would stand you in good stead to succeed alongside ambition, drive and determination to deliver excellence on every contract.

You'll be keen on working on in a small, tight-knit business environment, and capable of balancing the bigger picture and a strategic viewpoint with getting stuck in and supporting all teams in achieving project excellence.

Salary, Remuneration & other benefits on offer:

Our client is willing to offer a salary and package above market rate in order to bring the right individual into the business (negotiable for the right applicant).
