Our client - Your New Business:

My Chester based client are a specialist subcontractor in glazing and aluminium systems with over 20 years' experience in this specialist, niche market. They have enjoyed continued growth and success over the last 5 years, having built their business on solid foundations of contracts with blue-chip main contractors on prestigious new build and external refurbishment projects.

Currently turning over £8m-£10m and working on £multi-million projects (with their contracts being worth up to £2m), the business is big enough to be a leading player in their industry, and small enough to offer a close, family-feel culture. Managed by an involved and engaging MD, the business is forecasting continued sustainable growth through an order book that is full for the next 12 months and beyond.

Together, we are seeking a Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager to help drive the commercial performance across glazing, cladding, window systems and aluminium projects on a variety of new build and refurbishment contracts. You will maintain smooth contact with all business stakeholders, including suppliers (which will include factories producing the products that your teams will be installing), internal operational and commercial teams, and of course clients. Succeeding in this role, you'll be supporting the business in satisfying the needs of both the customer and company, driving value and profitability and on quick turnaround projects in residential, commercial and educational projects.

The business will consider commercial candidates at any level, from intermediate Quantity Surveyor up to Commercial Manager. Your duties and responsibilities as a Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager:

* Take commercial responsibility across the portfolio of projects, managing costs and driving value and profitability
* Maintain a strong working relationship with client(s) over a multitude of on-going projects
* Forecast predicted spends, forecast project cash flows and prepare, negotiate and settle final accounts, including the appropriate prompt payments in accordance with contract terms
* Negotiate variations with main contractors / customers and ensure maximum productivity across contracts
* Ensure the submission of relevant contract updates, including potential programme delays, issues or variations - to the business and to the client/customer where appropriate
* Develop, over time, a team of commercial individuals to support the business across an expanding portfolio and client base
* Supervise, mentor and encourage all subordinate staff in their personal professional development, including ensuring assistant quantity surveyors' participation in the management of subcontractors
* Maintain and coordinate cost and value reporting covering - both direct and indirect costs - in compliance with the commercial reporting timetable

Your skills and experience required:

As a Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager with either a subcontractor or main contractor background, the main focus of this recruitment process will be to demonstrate an ability to drive projects, maximising efficiency and value.

Your understanding of payment processes on both sides of the fence (subcontractor and main contractor) will considerably help you to hit the ground running in this role, and your ability to build internal and external relationships will be fundamental to success.

Your skills as a negotiator will also be important, and will help maximise profits on all live and future contracts. You'll be a calming influence in a fast-paced environment and will be unfazed by contractual pressures from big-name clients.

Salary, Remuneration & other benefits on offer:

Our client is willing to offer a salary and package above market rate to secure the right individual - up to £60k package (negotiable for the right applicant) plus additional benefits including a car allowance (combined with your salary), laptop, company phone and flexible working (including the option of working from home).
