Job Description

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Commercial Manager to join a Leading Contractor in the North West.

90% New Build on Projects up to £40m

The purpose of the role is to oversee all commercial aspects of the divisions performance and reporting.

What youll do:

* Ensure that HS&E and quality standards, operating processes, company policies and all legislative requirements are understood, implemented and adhered to at all times, supporting the Divisional Director in making them the centre of excellence
* Overview of the Surveying function within the division, ensuring that all team members are fulfilling their job roles, mentor and coach team members when required
* Develop & maintain close relationships with customers, consultants & subcontractors to continuously improve customer experience, improve our company and obtain repeat & negotiated business, mentor your team to ensure they are also completing this
* Actively manage and monitor financial aspects of contracts at all stages, ensuring that the forecast is accurate and the cash position of each project is maximised without compromising either contractual arrangements or relationships
* Support the Divisional Director in reporting to the Board of Directors on all divisional financial issues, with clarity and transparency in all areas; update the Divisional Director if there are any project issues which affect the contract
* Actively interrogate all appropriate financial and contractual information
* Ensure that there is active support and buy-in to the group procurement deals by ensuring the surveying team are communicating this to subcontractors at tender stage and applied at order stage
* Ensure that Surveyors understand their responsibilities for the preparation and negotiation of interim valuations and final accounts and intervene if not carried out satisfactorily
* Support the wider Surveying team on all subcontract interim and final account applications to help ensure that all payment procedures are implemented to comply with the Construction Act and/or other prevailing legislation
* Evaluate CVIs, Architects or EA instructions and subcontractors variations
* Check that the preparation of claims or other means of dispute management to correct an imbalance of cost and value are occurring in a timely and appropriate manner
* Ensure that claims by subcontractors have been addressed, and support the surveying team in preparing any necessary documentation/correspondence to protect the Companys interests
* Make sure that at all times the Surveying team use best endeavours and seek to maximise margins in cooperation with the Contracts / Project Manager by keeping cost to a minimum and value to a maximum by all professional legitimate means, mentor and facilitate this when required
* Review and when necessary facilitate subcontract enquiries, including formulating the tender list in consultation with the wider management team and subsequent analysis and assessment of subcontract quotations
* Keep abreast of the preliminaries/site management costs and ensure that the Project team are advised accordingly so they are able to action and remedy over-expenditure
* Support the bid and estimating teams and study documents at tender stage and advise on onerous conditions therein, offering solutions when appropriate
* Ensure that upon receipt of contract, contract documents are compared with tender documents and any anomalies are notified to the Divisional Director

Have you got what it takes:

* QS Degree or equivalent
* Must have experience in similar role
* Strong people management skills
* Good data interrogation skills
* Commercial awareness
* Experience of management accounts
* Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
* Commercial contracting experience
* Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
* Must be proficient, timely and accurate data entries
* Understanding and compliance of financial and performance reporting
* Full UK driving licence
