Job Description

The Business:

This fantastic Manchester based client has experience significant growth in the social housing market over the last 2-3 years, and due to the awarding of several new contracts for the new financial year (and beyond), as well as successful placement on a number of frameworks, we are looking for an experienced Estimator / Quantity Surveyor to join the expanding commercial team.

This £20m turnover business, based in stunning offices in Manchester, specialise in planned and reactive maintenance (gas and electrics) across the social housing market. In addition, they have several lucrative contracts across other commercial clients in the North West. Strong relationships throughout these specialist industries, starting with the reputable names of the MD and Operations Director running right through to site teams, have ensured the successful growth of the business and secured the promising forward order book of work across the North West region.

As Estimator / Quantity Surveyor, you will carry out the below duties to ensure projects run smoothly, to time and to cost, as well as ensuring the satisfaction of the clients:

Estimator / Surveyor duties and responsibilities:

* Maintain a strong working relationship with the client(s) over a multitude of on-going projects, ensuring prompt and fair payments in accordance with the contract terms
* Submit pricing and estimates for prospective works and contribute to the completion and submission of tenders for work, as well as working closely with operational teams to keep projects as close to cost as possible, thereby ensuring the continued satisfaction of several clients
* Forecast predicted spends, forecast project cash flows and prepare, negotiate and settle final accounts
* Negotiate variations with main contractors / customers and ensure maximum productivity across contracts
* Ensure the submission of relevant contract updates, including potential programme delays, issues or variations - to the business and to the client/customer where appropriate
* Supervise, mentor and encourage all subordinate staff in their personal professional development, including ensuring assistant quantity surveyors' participation in the management of subcontractors
* Monitor subcontractors against programme and ensure direct reports do likewise and offer advice and support on problem areas
* Support the existing commercial team in maintaining and coordinating cost and value reporting covering both direct and indirect costs - in compliance with the commercial reporting timetable

Your skills and experience required:

* You will be suitably qualified for an Estimator / Quantity Surveyor role (HND in construction or a similar, or superseding qualification will be advantageous) and demonstrate experience working with gas and electrical maintenance work
* Social Housing contractor or client experience would be an advantage but is by no means necessary
* A keen eye for detail is crucial, as well as your demonstrable record in accurate estimating and pricing
* You'll also be comfortable managing a number of on-going projects at once, or large contracts consisting of several small properties
* Strong negotiation skills will be essential to maximising project value and minimising costs when dealing with the clients and subcontractors

Salary, Remuneration & other benefits on offer:

Our client is willing to offer an exceptional salary and package (above market rate) to secure the right individual - up to £50k - £60k salary plus industry leading company car / allowance and additional fringe benefits including excellent holiday allowances.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an Estimator / Quantity Surveyor to join an established and continuously growing specialist social housing maintenance contractor, operating successfully across the North West with high profile clients. This is a real opportunity to develop your career and commercial reputation in a highly reputable market.
