Job Description

The Head of Health & Safety role:

A brand new expansion position with an industry-leading, £multi-million turnover main contractor operating in the social housing new build, refurbishment and maintenance sectors. Recognising that with significant growth comes increased risk to their valued members of staff across all operations, the business is proactively seeking a culture-driven Head of Health & Safety to lead a team of regional Health & Safety Advisors.

Critical to the continued success of the business is the Health & Safety culture. Already accredited to OHSAS 18001, the business is looking to drive a new, "target zero" approach to Health & Safety, implementing a culture of reporting incidents and near missed to help reduce accident and incident rate even further.

Your skills and experience:

A Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH, or actively working towards this) with either the NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent (NVQ Level 4, for example), you will be able to demonstrate success in developing a significant, positive Health & Safety culture in similar environments - including for example construction contractors, housing associations and large, fast paced construction and property businesses. Experience of new build projects of the value of £10m - £20m would be desirable but is by no means essential.

Comfortable with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001, you will have a strong technical knowledge of Health & Safety systems and procedures, and an analytical mind about how these can be tweaked and improved to work together with the Health & Safety, Operational and Site teams to help develop and further improve Health & Safety performance. You'll be expected to produce board reports, and present to teams of senior managers and directors on the Health & Safety statistics and strategies.

They have built strong partnerships with a significant client base across the social housing and public sector (including some NHS and school refurbishment and maintenance work). This £multi-million turnover client is an organisation with more than 50 years' experience in building, refurbishing and maintaining large portfolios of stock for high profile clients.

Their excellent reputation has been forged through the continuing delivery of exceptional projects valuing up to £20m across a variety of sectors - new build housing and accommodation, refurbishment and maintenance, and commercial energy services. Managed by a dynamic, hands on team of directors and Heads of Departments, who contributes hugely to the practical running and operations of the business, this exceptional client have a reputation for looking after their staff, customers and suppliers.

Salary, Remuneration & other benefits on offer:

Our client is willing to offer a salary and package above market rate to secure the right individual; a salary of up to £70,000 plus a car or allowance, an exceptional pension and bonus scheme and generous holiday allowance. This package will be negotiable for the right candidate.

You'll also have a clear progression and development plan leading to the possibility of Health & Safety directorship in the next few years.
