Job Description

The business
A well-known groundworks contractor based in Stoke, with sites across Stoke and Cheshire, this £multi-million turnover regional business demonstrates an exceptional reputation in working with the most well-known residential developers and main contractors in the North West and Midlands. Continued success across the business and the upturn in construction has led to significant expansion of live and upcoming contracts, and as such we are looking to appoint a Quantity Surveyor to join the high functioning commercial team based near to Stoke-on-Trent.

The success of this business in recent years has emerged from the successful and mutually respectful partnerships with major developers. Contracts valued up to £5m on developments in excess of £50m make the business exciting, and the variety of contracts makes it a unique job role. Operating across the Midlands and Cheshire, based out of brand new offices in Stoke, you will have the perfect opportunity to develop your career by ensuring maximum value across high profile contracts and groundworks packages.

The role - duties, responsibilities and experience

An experienced Quantity Surveyor, you will be joining a business that is on an exciting upward curve. Working alongside a talented commercial team and with a supportive board of directors, you'll manage one or two projects (depending on the values) and be comfortable running fast-paced construction jobs. Taking on the below responsibilities, you'll have a busy, challenging and rewarding career move:

* Ensuring that project value is maximised through careful and intricate management of costs, budgets, schedules and subcontractor performance (for example labour support packages)
* Maintain contract reports and ensure internal and external stakeholders are kept up to date with project progress - including the raising of any potential issues
* Build and maintain strong working relationships with the client business, operational teams, and directors to ensure timely completion of contracts to budget
* Use strong negotiation skills to ensure maximum value on all projects, whilst ensuring payments are made and received on time and in accordance with contract terms
* Forecast predicted spends and variations, make timely payment applications, and prepare, negotiate and settle final accounts
* Support the development of assistant quantity surveyors where appropriate

Qualified to degree level (for example, BSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent), you'll be able to demonstrate commercial astuteness, an ability to manage more than one package at once (where appropriate), and strong negotiation skills - the ingredients to being a successful Quantity Surveyor.

Salary and Remuneration
Expect to be rewarded with a salary of up to £45,000 plus a car/allowance and competitive benefitsd package. You'll also be exposed to significant (and quick) career progression opportunities to Senior Quantity Surveyor and beyond following success in this role.

It's busy out there - but I understand the need for discretion.
