Job Description

The business

A client we know extremely well, this £100m turnover business is a regional building and maintenance contractor based close to Haydock. With an outstanding reputation across new build and refurbishment to commercial, education and healthcare contracts, and a solid property maintenance (planned and reactive) division, this business continues to build on its 50 years' experience of being one of the North West's top construction contractors.

Due to an exciting spike in workload across their projects team, including significant refurbishment and new build contracts, the business is seeking a freelance Quantity Surveyor to join the team for an extended period of 6 months (which could lead to a permanent opportunity IF this would be of interest).

The Quantity Surveyor role

As a freelance Quantity Surveyor, you will be joining a business that is established, successful but whose ambition and drive to excel is admirable. The multi-faceted nature of this business will lead to opportunities and exposure within all of its divisions, so a freelance Quantity Surveyor from a range of backgrounds will be considered.

Amongst other things, your key duties will be:

* Ensuring that contract values are maximised through careful and intricate management of costs, budgets, schedules and subcontractor performance
* Maintain contract reports and ensure internal and external stakeholders are kept up to date with project progress - including the raising of any potential issues
* Build and maintain strong working relationships with operational teams, site staff, directors, clients and subcontractors to ensure timely completion of projects to budget
* Procure and manage multiple subcontractor accounts as appropriate to varying construction projects
* Forecast predicted spends and variations, and prepare, negotiate and settle final accounts
* You'll also get the chance to develop assistant quantity surveyors (should you wish to do so)

Qualified to degree level (for example, BSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent), your strong negotiation skills, keen eye for detail and commercial astuteness will be the keys to your appointment. An ability to juggle a number of small projects or multiple contracts at any one time will be advantageous, but a freelance Quantity Surveyor with a construction, refurbishment or social housing background is highly desirable.

Salary and Remuneration
The hourly/daily rate will be negotiable depending on your experience and current situation, but the client is prepared to pay a highly competitive rate to secure the services of a high calibre freelance QS.
